Grazioli MV7 – ¼ wave 7 band Groundplane Antenna
The Grazioli MV7 is a high quality multiband vertical antenna for amateur radio use on the 40 m, 20 m, 17 m, 15 m, 12 m, 10 m and 6 m bands. Based on the ¼ wave ground plane principle, it combines precise mechanical construction with a well-studied electrical design – entirely developed and produced in Italy.
Derived from the proven MV6 series, the MV7 adds the 40 m band. The central radiator is a dual band element (40 + 20 m): a coil with a capacitive cap decouples the lower part of the 20 m and at the same time provides the necessary inductance for the 40 m. Above the coil, two telescopic aluminum sections (total length approx. 8.4 m) cover the upper bands.
A distinctive feature is the new DBFC (Dual Band Folded Counterpoise) system – a patented folded counterweight. A thin stainless steel cable is attached to one of the four radials, forming a double band counterweight. This allows for efficient operation of the 40m without additional radials.
Like all Grazioli antennas, the MV7 stands out for its construction quality: alloy radiator AW6063-T66 (CNC machined), stainless steel (AISI-304/316) clamps and screws, UV-resistant molded insulators. Wind resistance up to 130 km/h (with guy lines), total height 8.97 m, weight 8.5 kg.
Supplied with FAIR-RITE FT240-43 toroid to create an effective HF choke and Three-point anchoring clamp for installations in windy areas. For exposed or windy installations, the manufacturer recommends the use of non-conductive tie rods (e.g. plastic or Kevlar) to improve mechanical stability. A suitable fixing washer is included.
The antenna has a nominal impedance of 50 Ohm and direct power supply, without integrated impedance transformer. The FAIR-RITE toroid (FT240-43, Made in USA) is used to build a high performance HF choke, reducing common mode currents from 1.8 to 30 MHz and preventing feedback on the coaxial cable.
Typical gain of approximately 0 dBd (≈ 2.15 dBi) with irradiation omnidirectional. Coverage of all HF bands with VSWR ≤ 2:1 and less than 1.5:1 on resonance. Maximum power 1.5 kW PEP (SSB) on 40 m and up to 3 kW on other bands.
The DC grounded structure protects against static charges and atmospheric discharges. UHF connector (SO-239) with PTFE insulator and gold pin for a stable and long-lasting connection.
